About the Pikes Peak PCC
The Pikes Peak PCC operates mainly out of Colorado Springs, located in the southern part of Colorado. We work closely with our sister PCC located to the north, the Rocky Mountain PCC, to host a wide variety of events between the two PCCs to cover the state of Colorado. Through our work, we have assisted local businesses and helped them to navigate the challenges of mailing and shipping.
We strive to connect local businesses of all sizes and types with the United States Postal Service to ensure mailing needs are met and any questions regarding shipping, are answered. Fun Facts
Famous Doughnuts: The Summit House bakes and sells a unique high-altitude fried doughnut. Because of the extreme air pressure, they can fry up to 700 per hour, and if you try to take them to a lower elevation, they will collapse.
Highest Cog Railway: The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway has been shuttling visitors up the mountain since 1891, making it the highest in the world.
Inspiration for a Song: In 1893, educator Katharine Lee Bates was so awestruck by the view from the summit that she wrote the poem "America the Beautiful," which later became the famous patriotic song.
The Famous Race: The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest auto race in America. Drivers tackle 156 turns over a 12.42-mile course to reach the summit.
No Apostrophe Allowed: The mountain is technically named "Pikes Peak" without an apostrophe due to a 19th-century United States Board on Geographic Names ruling meant to standardize geographical names.
